Arranging · Chapter 13
Snapping and background
So that a board looks tidy without you nudging things millimetre by millimetre, everything snaps to its neighbours and to the grid while you drag. The grid itself is the background of the board.
Snapping
When you drag a thing close to another one, edges and centres snap together. If nothing is nearby, the corner settles on the grid of the background. Hold Alt while dragging and snapping is off for that move.
You can switch it off completely under Settings, General with Snap to other items while dragging. It is on by default. If you turn it off, Alt works the other way round and things only snap while you hold the key.
The background of a board
In the board's menu, Background opens the choices. The background applies to everyone who opens the board.
Pattern
Plain, Dots, Squares, Lines, Millimetre and Isometric. The millimetre paper has a finer grid than the others and suits a floor plan well.
Colour
Automatic follows light and dark. Then there are Paper white, Cream, Chalkboard, Blueprint and Own with a colour picker. On a fixed paper colour the writing adapts so that it stays readable.
As my default sets the board back to your own default. You set that under Settings, Look with Dots on the board, and it applies to all boards without a background of their own.
Cora saysThe background travels along when you save the board as a JSON Canvas and bring it into another nexcanvas.
