Shapes and templates · Chapter 15
The shape library
Besides the nine basic shapes, nexcanvas ships nine packages with 348 shapes and over 1,600 icons. You find them all in the shape library on the left of the board.
Opening the library
The Shapes library sits on the left of the board. Folded away, it is a narrow column with the six shapes you used last, and opened it shows everything. Your account remembers whether it is open. You can also get there from the choice of basic shapes in the toolbar with All shapes ….
Searching
At the top is Search shapes. The search looks at the names of all shapes and icons, in German and English, and it does not matter whether you type accents or umlauts. If you enter several words, all of them have to match. Long groups and lists of matches show 64 shapes at first, and Show all … fetches the rest.
Getting a shape onto the board
- Drag: Drag the shape onto the board and it lands in its own size wherever you let go.
- Click and draw: Click the shape and draw it out on the board as big as you like. Shift and Alt work as they do for the basic shapes.
After that it is a shape like any other. You set fill and outline in the context bar, and its colours follow whatever you choose.
Favourites and Recent
Every shape has a star. With it, the shape lands at the top under Favourites. Below that, under Recent, are the shapes you used last. After that comes each package as a group of its own, which you fold open and shut.
Sometimes less is more
At the bottom of the library, Show and hide packages leads to My account, Shapes. There you switch off whole packages for yourself, split into With nexcanvas, Icons and Installed. This only applies to your account. What already lies on a board stays drawn there.
Cora saysA board carries the drawing of every shape that lies on it. If the package is missing somewhere, say on another server, the shape still looks exactly the same.
