Photos, files and links

A photo of the whiteboard at the office, a floor plan as a PDF, a link to the hotel: all of it may go on the board. nexcanvas makes sure it looks good there and gives away nothing it shouldn't.

How something gets onto the board

  • Dragging in: drag a file from your folder onto the board, and it lands where you let go.
  • Pasting: Ctrl + V pastes an image from the clipboard. Copied text becomes a note, a copied address a link card.
  • Toolbar: Photo, file or link (key I) offers Upload photo or file, Add link and Take a photo. On the phone the last one opens the camera.
  • Right mouse button: on an empty spot there is Upload photo or file too.

Filling a mood board

Draw a few shapes without a fill as empty slots, for example with the Mood board template. If you drop a photo onto an empty slot, it fills exactly that slot. If you drag in several photos at once, they fill the next empty slots.

What nexcanvas does with your photos

Place and device disappear

When you upload, nexcanvas removes from photos and videos where and with what they were taken, and tells you so in a notice. The operator can switch this off.

Big photos load fast

If a photo is larger than 1,600 pixels on its long side, the board shows a smaller preview. The original stays available for download.

iPhone photos work too

nexcanvas saves photos in the HEIC format in a way that every browser can show.

The same file only once

If you upload the same file twice in the same space, it still lies on the server only once.

Files and links

Everything that isn't an image appears as a file card with name, type, size and, for PDFs, the number of pages. nexcanvas even shows a PDF as a page, more on that in the next chapter. Videos also appear as a card and are downloaded to watch.

A link card shows the address of the page and a title that nexcanvas derives from the address. A double-click opens the link in a new tab.

Cora saysA file may be 50 MB by default. Photos and files are seen only by whoever may read the space the board is in.
