Arranging · Chapter 11

Turn, group, line up

A board looks tidy when things sit in a row, belong together and stay where you put them. A few handles and buttons take care of that.

Turning

At the bottom right of a selection sits the handle to Turn it. Without a key it clicks into place at right angles, and with Shift it turns in steps of 15 degrees. Several things turn around their shared centre. Only frames do not turn.

Grouping

Select two or more things and click Group in the context bar, or press Ctrl + G. From then on you select and move them with one click. Ungroup or Ctrl + Shift + G splits them up again.

Line up and spread

With two or more things selected, the context bar shows Line up and spread. It lines them up on the left, the middle or the right, at the top, the middle or the bottom, or spreads three or more evenly across or up and down. A group counts as one block, and locked things and frames stay where they are.

Locking

Whatever should stay put, such as the walls of a floor plan, you lock with the padlock in the context bar or with the right mouse button. A locked thing can no longer be moved, changed or turned until you unlock it again.

Bring to front and send to back

If something is hidden, Bring to front puts it above everything else, and Send to back puts it below everything. Frames always lie right at the bottom, so they never cover anything.

Cora saysWhile you move things, nexcanvas lines up edges and centres with the things nearby. How that works and how to switch it off is in the chapter Snapping and background.
